Our Mission

Golden Retriever Rescue of Fairbanks has a three-fold mission:

#1. We rescue unwanted and abandoned dogs and place into loving homes.

We are a group of dedicated volunteers who work at placing unwanted, neglected or relinquished Goldens and Retriever mix breeds into new loving family settings. We give them a second chance to live in a loving family in a forever home.

We take in Goldens, Retrievers, and those who are “Golden at Heart”. Our dogs are surrendered to GRRF from various situations including our local Borough Animal Shelter, remote Alaskan villages, and families experiencing personal hardships. Each of our dogs has a different story and we are here to help them through this chapter of their life before sending them on to their happily ever after.

All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and have had hip x-rays and bloodwork. Dogs older than 7 years old have additional testing prior to becoming available for adoption to ensure they are starting their new life on the healthiest foot!

#2. We promote and provide education about dogs, dog care, and obedience/behavior.

GRRF provides Canine Good Citizen Testing at local community events.
We encourage positive training methods for dog behavior modification.

#3. We promote spaying/neutering in order to address the pet overpopulation problem.

Mama dogs participating in our “Spay and Return” program are fixed after weaning their babies and provided with extra veterinary care prior to returning home to their families. GRRF also reaches out to families participating in this program to see if they have any intact male dogs in the home that GRRF can neuter at the same time.
